Unit 1: Cooperative Games

2023-24 Unit 2: Fitness Testing & Goal Setting
IB Theme: Who We Are
During the 1st six weeks of PE, students will learn about the health-related components of fitness and how to set goals to make improvements.
Fitness testing begins September 2023, and will continue during PE throughout a 6 week unit (or until every student has been tested). The assessments that will be conducted include: 1) confidential height & weight measurements, 2) sit & reach, 3) curl-ups, 4) push-ups, and 5) PACER.
By the end of the unit, students should be able to explain "how the choice to participate in various activities impacts the different health-related components of fitness." Fourth grade students should demonstrate knowledge of the five components of fitness: 1) body composition, 2) flexibility, 3) muscular strength, 4) muscular endurance, and 5) cardiovascular endurance. Fifth grade students should be able to define the five components of fitness and give an example of activities to improve each component.

Students will develop an understanding of game categories, concepts, and tactical problems that can be applied to various sports.

Unit 4: Movement Concepts & Technology in Physical Education
IB Theme: How We Express Ourselves
3rd grade students will be expressing themselves & working cooperatively to complete a group project.
4th grade students will be expressing themselves & working cooperatively to complete a group project.
5th grade students will be expressing themselves & working cooperatively to complete a group project.

Unit 5: Sports Skills & Concepts
Team sports including net games & invasion games will be introduced with modified rules to practice teamwork, cooperation, respect, empathy, & integrity.
Unit 6: International & Recreational Games
An introduction to various international & recreational games such as bocce, badminton, corn hole, kin ball or tchoukball.
